Commissioner David Stern joined the show to discuss the state of the NBA.
-- Stern commented on his decision not to fine LeBron James after he blew off the media following the loss to the Magic in Game 6 of the conference finals.
Stern explained his rationale for not penalizing LeBron: "Rather than make the story about anything other than the competition, it was best left undone."
Stern implied he'd have more to say about LeBron after he talked to him, which Stern plans to do shortly.
-- Stern dismissed criticism of the refs during this postseason. He said the media is trying to make it seem like there's a problem, but the more important judge is the fans, who seem thrilled with the playoffs.
Stern said foul disparity is the most ridiculous criticism. Of course there's a foul disparity, because one team fouls more than the other.
-- Stern commented on a less popular team like the Magic reaching the finals. He said the pundits say the NBA must worry when a team like the Cavs don't make the finals. But Stern doesn't worry about it at all. He looks at the long-term picture.
-- Stern said he's thrilled that so many superstars and big-time international players were highlighted in the conference finals. "I think it's the best conference finals we've seen in tandem in a long time," Stern said.
-- Dan asked Stern about the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury putting advertising on its uniforms. Stern said he didn't have a problem with it, but it's not allowed currently in the NBA. Stern said they probably would look into it for the NBA.
