Tennessee Titans backup quarterback and proud Longhorn, Chris Simms, called in to discuss Dan's claim that the Big 12 is better than the SEC.
Simms likes the choice of Bruce Springsteen as the halftime entertainment because he is also a Jersey guy. If given a choice of three songs The Boss should play at halftime, Simms would like to hear Born in the USA, Born to Run, but couldn't give a third choice.
Simms agrees with Dan -- the Big 12 is better than the SEC. He admits that eight out of 12 years, the SEC is the best conference in football but this is not one of these years.
The biggest factor for the Big 12 is the quarterback play, especially at Texas, Kansas State, Missouri and Texas Tech. Simms thinks UGA quarterback Matt Stafford will make a better NFL quarterback than Tim Tebow. Simms thinks Tebow has improved his passing from year to year and if he keeps it up, he'll be an NFL passer. But Tebow's reliance on his legs won't work in the NFL -- it's just too difficult to run as a QB. Simms likes Mark Sanchez because he can really throw the ball and has NFL talent. Same with Chase Daniel, though his lack of height may hurt him at the next level.
Vince Young has been at the workout facility every day and should begin practicing this week. He is not sure if he'll still have a job after Young is healthy, so he'll just wait and see. As for Simms' non-tryout with the Patriots, he flew to New England and was told after arriving, they had a change of plans and no longer wanted him. They were apologetic about making him come to New England for nothing, but that's life in the NFL. |
