By David Sabino, Sports Illustrated

Sports IllustratedWe ranked the position players in the major leagues from 1 to 425, and the pitchers from 1 to 400, based on our projections of their statistical production this season. The categories considered for position players were batting average, home runs, RBIs and stolen bases; for pitchers the categories were wins, saves, earned run average and WHIP (walks plus hits per inning pitched). We took into account each player's career stats as well as his role on his current team, his prospects for improving or declining, his injury history and his current physical condition. Using these criteria, we determined each player's value ranking, or PVR.

Hitters: C | 1B | 2B | SS | 3B | OF | DH
Pitchers: Starters | Relievers
