Warden Report: Week 11 Posted: Wednesday November 21, 2001 7:34 PM
By Ryan E. Houston, Special to CNNSI.com Not much time this week with the holiday season upon us. I got a lot of e-mail to get this out tonight so that you would have it for the Thursday games. So with that in mind let's get right to it.
Are you kidding me?The Bucs are known for their strong defense and poor offense. Yet last week they made Jim Miller look like Jim McMahon in his prime and Marty Booker look like Willie Gault. Before last week the Bucs had only allowed 10 passing TDs on the season and were only allowing an average of 198 yards passing per game. Funny how things change so quickly in this hobby.
Surprises and disappointmentsAhman Green where are you? What a disappointing performance last week in Green Bay. The Packers will need to depend on Green down the stretch, as it is obvious that Favre is trying too hard. I am sure the Packers coaching staff is stressing the run this week in Detroit where Favre has had problems in the past. Anybody else get beat by Marty Booker last week? He cost me a win in INSANEX (see below). Great game for a guy that before the season wasn't even mentioned on most cheatsheets. Moss owners everywhere are breathing a sigh of relief as the "man child" is once again back. Now only if he could play on Monday Night every week. James Thrash is OVERRATED. Anybody that has him and was depending on him last week was sure surprised to see he had 0 points. I know McNabb didn't have the greatest game, but as most of you know, I am not a big "Trash" supporter. Curtis Martin owners are sweating this week. The thought of winning a game they really need to win probably has them scouring the market for last-minute trades. Take advantage of that fact. Is there anything better than a keeper league at this time of year? This is when you not only prepare for your playoff run but also prepare for next year's draft and solidifying your keeper list. What a great concept. Will the real Priest Holmes please stand up this week? Rod Smith owners are concerned. It's a short week and all early reports indicate he will be a gametime decision. Watch this situation closely tomorrow morning.
Marty Booker cost me a win. Despite putting up 96 points last week, I was unable to counter Booker's 34 points. Mix in some Rich Gannon (32 points), a subpar week from Griese (11 points) and it's easy to see what cost me a win. This despite good weeks from Faulk, Williams, Freeman and Horn. This week James and I go head to head in what will surely be a hard fought battle. I don't like to talk too much trash about James since he's the man here at CNN/SI so I will let our teams do the talking! The TradeRumors squad suffered a tough defeat last week as the 2-8 Progno squad had a great week from the Eagles defense (thanks to Ryan Leaf), Jake Plummer, Tiki Barber and Curtis Conway. Footballguy Clayton Gray overcame a huge deficit to beat CNN/SI last week due to Randy Moss' performance on Monday Night. Clayton's squad look solid and is on a three game win streak. That is it for this week. Happy Thanksgiving to each of you from the Asylum Team! Ryan Houston is the co-owner of FantasyAsylum.com.
