Fantasy Player Projections
Raymond James Stadium | Sunday, October 18 | 1:00 p.m. EST (FOX)
Panthers 17, Buccaneers 7
Pos. Player Projection
QB Jake Delhomme
155 pass yards, 1 pass TD, 1 INTDelhomme has been pretty awful in 2009, but could be a clever bye-week play against the abominable Buccaneers.
RB DeAngelo Williams
2 rec, 20 rec yards, 90 rush yards, 1 rush TDWilliams was a massive disappointment last week against the Redskins, rushing for just 40 yards and coughing up a costly fumble.
RB Jonathan Stewart
50 rush yardsThe good: Stewart scored the game-winning touchdown last week agains the 'Skins. The bad: It was the first time he found the end zone in 2009. Still, a worthwhile play against the Bucs.
WR Steve Smith
5 rec, 85 yards, 1 TDThe once-prolific wideout has been a sort of fantasy whipping boy in recent weeks, drawing loads of unfavorable comparisons to 'the other Steve Smith' on the Giants. He's no doubt motivated to shut up the naysayers against the hapless Bucs. If he can't post a big game Sunday, it's time to start worrying.
WR Muhsin Muhammad
4 rec, 40 yardsMuhammad might be a lost cause for 2009 with the Panthers' offense in critical condition.
TE Jeff King
1 rec, 10 yardsThe spitting image of a fantasy non-entity.
K John Kasay
2 PATs, 1 FGKasay is a middle-of-the-road option at kicker. Could be a worthy bye-week replacement against the Bucs.
1 sack, 2 INTThe NFL's second-ranked pass defense has managed just two interceptions on the year, but could double that output against fantasy question mark Josh Johnson and the Bucs. But one (important) caveat: Carolina's rush defense ranks 30th.
Pos. Player Projection
QB Josh Johnson
145 pass yards, 30 rush yards, 2 INTJohnson's fantasy value is minimal while playing for such a lousy team and getting acclimated to the speed of the pro game.
RB Carnell Williams
3 rec, 20 rec yards, 55 rush yards, 1 rush TDIf Williams can't gobble up yardage against Carolina's porous rush defense, why's he even wasting a roster spot?
RB Derrick Ward
50 rush yardsDesperate times call for Derrick Ward. If you need a bye-week replacement at the flex postion, Ward could be your man with the Panthers in town.
WR Michael Clayton
4 rec, 40 yardsNot worth serious fantasy consideration in any format.
WR Antonio Bryant
4 rec, 30 yardsListed as questionable going into last week, Bryant posted serviceable numbers (five catches, 62 yards) against a tough Philly defense. Still, not worth much playing for such an abysmal offense.
TE Kellen Winslow
5 rec, 55 yards, 0 TDWinslow went off against Philly for 102 yards receiving and pair of scores. He's still a must-start in any format.
K Shane Andrus
1 PATMike Nugent was cut on Monday. Andrus is a fantasy unknown. Not worth the risk.
1 sack, 1 INTNot worth it. Even against the lowly Panthers.
