Cam Newton260 pass yards, 2 pass TDs, INT, 34 rush yards
While Newton was able to throw for more than 300 yards for the second time this season, he didn't throw or run for any touchdowns, and he fumbled near the goal line against the Bears. It's doubtful you're going to want to sit Newton, but his must-start status is gone. |
| RB | ![]() |
Jonathan Stewart47 rush yards, 2 rec, 12 rec yards
Stewart rushed a season-high 17 times for 42 yards against the Bears. The Panthers appear to be sold on Stewart as their main back, but he's going to have a tough time against a Redskins rushing defense that ranks in the top 10. |
| RB | ![]() |
DeAngelo Williams32 rush yards, 2 rec, 15 rec yards
Williams ran for just 33 yards on 11 carries against the Bears in Week 8. He was a rumored trade chip this past week, but it looks like the Panthers will continue to use him as Jonathan Stewart's backup. |
| WR | ![]() |
Steve Smith6 rec, 85 yards, rec TD
Smith caught seven passes for the second straight week in compiling a season-high 118 yards receving against Chicago. Unfortunately, he still hasn't scored a touchdown this season. That should change in Week 9 against the worst pass defense in the NFL. |
| WR | ![]() |
Brandon LaFell4 rec, 55 yards
While LaFell only caught three passes against the Bears in Week 8, he did register 88 yards, which is the second-highest mark for him this season. The Redskins have a pretty bad pass defense, so LaFell could be a decent sleeper pick this week. |
| TE | ![]() |
Greg Olsen4 rec, 48 yards, rec TD
Olsen caught three passes for 25 yards against his former team in Chicago in Week 8. He has been inconsistent from a fantasy perspective, but things should go better for him in Week 9 against a Redskins team that has allowed the second-most fantasy points to tight ends. |
| K | ![]() |
Justin Medlock2 PATs, 2 FGs
Medlock made all five field-goal attempts against Chicago in Week 8, marking his best fantasy week of the season by far. Don't expect that each week, as the Panthers try to iron things out offensively. |
| DEFENSE |
INT, 2 Sacks
The Panthers allowed 23 points to the Bears in Week 8, but they also held Chicago to just 210 total yards and sacked Jay Cutler six times. While the Panthers have improved defensively recently, the Redskins are too much to handle, with RGIII and Alfred Morris in the backfield. |

Robert Griffin III245 pass yards, pass TD, INT, 45 rush yards, rush TD
RGIII had a disappointing week against the Steelers, with just 177 passing yards and 10 rushing yards, but he should bounce back against the Panthers in Week 9 if his receivers don't drop as many passes as they did in Week 8. He has seven touchdown passes and three interceptions on the season, and this is the last game before the Redskins' bye. |
| RB | ![]() |
Alfred Morris85 rush yards, rush TD
The rookie had his worst fantasy game of the season in Week 8, as he rushed for just 59 yards on 13 carries against the Steelers. Even so, he still ranks in the top five in rushing, and the Panthers' rushing defense is a below-average unit. |
| WR | ![]() |
Joshua Morgan5 rec, 50 yards, rec TD
While Morgan caught just five passes for 46 yards against the Steelers, he saw eight targets from quarterback Robert Griffin III. Morgan also threw the ball once and rushed once. Keep an eye on him in Week 9 against Carolina. |
| WR | ![]() |
Santana Moss3 rec, 40 yards
Moss caught four passes for 21 yards and a short touchdown against the Steelers in Week 8. With four touchdown catches in the past four weeks, it's becoming clear that RGIII goes to Moss when he needs to. Consider Moss a nice WR3 in fantasy play. |
| WR | ![]() |
Leonard Hankerson3 rec, 34 yards
Hankerson continues to be problematic for both the Redskins and fantasy owners. He caught just one pass against the Steelers, but he dropped a couple others, including a sure touchdown. He has a ton of talent, but fantasy owners will have to wait for it to manifest consistently. |
| TE | ![]() |
Logan Paulsen3 rec, 25 yards
Despite Chris Cooley starting the game against the Steelers, Paulsen saw more targets and was a bigger part of the offense. He has eight catches for 118 yards in the past two weeks. |
| TE | ![]() |
Chris Cooley2 rec, 15 yards
Cooley started against the Steelers, but he was thrown to just once and he was unable to make the catch. Logan Paulsen appears to be the successor to tight end Fred Davis in Washington. |
| K | ![]() |
Kai Forbath3 PATs, 2 FGs
While Forbath did kick a pair of field goals, he was unable to connect on his only extra-point attempt of the season. He is a middle-of-the-road fantasy option in Week 9 against the Panthers. |
| DEFENSE |
INT, 2 Sacks
The Redskins have not been good defensively this season, and they had their worst fantasy production of the year in Week 8 against Pittsburgh. The 'Skins do have 10 interceptions and 14 sacks, and they face a struggling Panthers offense in Week 9. Even so, you should find better alternatives. |
