Fantasy baseball Weekend Primer: Cardinals-Phillies series pivotal
Notable nuggets on the upcoming weekend action that could swing your fantasy baseball matchup:
This week's Sunday Night game pits the Cardinals against the Phillies, with Jake Westbrook and Kyle Kendrick taking the bump for their teams. Neither of them are particularly attractive stream options, but they could both suffice in a pinch if you really need a few extra innings. Matt Holliday owners may want to temper their expectations, though, as the slugger is just 2-for-18 against Kendrick in his career. (However, one of the two hits was a home run.)
On the other side, those of you seeking a batter to stream over the weekend might want to look in Laynce Nix's direction. He's 4-for-11 with a homer, double and a walk against Westbrook in his career. As for a regular who might be in for a big Sunday, Jimmy Rollins has hit Westbrook to the tune of .400/.438/.467 in their respective careers.
Here are a few of our other favorite stream options for this weekend:
• Felix Doubront, who draws the Royals on Sunday. His rates haven't been great this year, but he has fanned 13 batters in 10 innings and could help swing strikeouts on the last day of the week. Scott Kazmir is slated to come off the DL on Saturday and gets the lowly Astros, making him another attractive stream-able player.
• Bronson Arroyo, who has been quietly effective this season in 20 innings, has a great matchup against the Marlins on Saturday.
• Wily Peralta starts the series finale for the Brewers against the Cubs on Sunday. While the rookie has struggled this season, he allowed two earned runs while striking out five in 6.2 innings against the Cubs in Chicago on April 9.
• Finally, the A's visit the Rays this weekend, and Jarrod Parker and Tommy Milone are both attractive adds for their starts on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. As a team, the Rays are hitting just .212/.289/.324 with 45 runs scored, fewer than all but three teams.
Enjoy the games this weekend. We'll see you for the Weekly Planner and Waiver Wire on Monday.
