Fantasy baseball Weekend Primer: McHugh a worthy stream option
Is it really the first weekend of June? Is the baseball season is really already one-third over? Time flies. Let's get to this weekend's best stream options before any more of it passes us by.
Collin McHugh will start for the Mets Saturday, taking the place of the injured Jonathon Niese. He has only made two relief outings with the big league club, but impressed at Triple-A Las Vegas. In eight starts covering 49.1 innings with the 51s, he went 3-2 with a 2.74 ERA and 36 strikeouts against nine walks. Perhaps most importantly, he'll face the Marlins, who have a lineup comparable to those McHugh saw in the minors this year.
Jerome Williams has been throwing the ball well for the Angels this season, posting a 2.58 ERA, 3.41 FIP and 1.13 WHIP in 13 appearances, including five starts. His average fastball velocity is up to a career-high 92.6 MPH, though he's still fanning fewer than six batters per nine innings. Owners should be confident in him this weekend, however, as he'll take the ball Saturday against the lowly Astros.
Finally, the White Sox, who most recently scored just six runs while getting swept by the Cubs, travel to Oakland this weekend. The A's have two pitchers who are likely available for streaming: Dan Straily takes the mound Saturday, while Jarrod Parker starts Sunday. Straily in particular is a great streamable starter this week; his ERA may be way up at 5.08 (largely explained by an unsustainably low 57.1 percent strand rate), but his FIP is 3.60. He should get on track against the struggling White Sox.
Enjoy the games this weekend. We'll see you on Monday.
