Fantasy football 2013 draft prep central: Rankings, position primers and much more

The impact of bye weeks are without a doubt overrated during fantasy drafts. Frankly, an owner would be better off stacking an entire team around one bye week, and just taking that one loss without even bothering to play with scraps. The team would be stronger during the other weeks with byes, which stretches from Week 4 through Week 12 this season. That means nine weeks of rosters playing at less than 100 percent and added stress placed on your limited reserve spots.

Since I doubt many are bold enough to implement that strategy, this bye-week and schedule primer helps owners manage the matchups, byes and potential replacements throughout the 17-week season. Outlined here are the five teams with the toughest matchups, five teams with the most favorable matchups when byes are in play, the players owners will have to do without and the leftovers to replace them that week.

You will notice a lot of repetition for the matchups, because the usual suspects create the bad matchups: stud defenses of Seattle, San Francisco, Houston, Pittsburgh and New England. Conversely, the suspect defenses of New Orleans, Tennessee, Jacksonville, Oakland and Buffalo are prevalent in the most favorable matchups.

Use this primer when dealing with bye weeks during the draft and refer back to it to deal with matchups and lineups during the season.
