Tom Seaver won the Cy Young Award as the winning pitcher for the World Championship Mets in 1969. The Mets' first true superstar, Seaver won two more Cy Young Awards, in 1973 and 1975, before being traded to the Cincinnati Reds in 1977. He returned to the Mets in 1983, then shuffled between several teams until his retirement in 1986. After retiring as a player, Seaver became an announcer for the New York Yankees.
