here Stewart transcends the greatness of drivers past is in his ability to lift the sport of motor racing out of its bed of clichés, out of its heroic silences, its dehumanized preoccupation with technology and high speed technology's concomitant death. With his pipy voice and his preppy, gregarious ways, Stewart has become a supersalesman, not only for the products he endorses, but for the sport itself.

In 1973, Jackie Stewart retired as a three-time World Driving Champion and the winner of 27 Grand Prix races. A shooting champion before becoming a driving champion, Stewart founded a shooting school in Scotland after abandoning the road. At 58, he is a corporate consultant for Ford and a board member of several companies. Stewart and Ford are sponsoring a Formula One team and expect to stage their own Grand Prix in 1999.
