Los Angeles running back Marcus Allen (32) crushed John Riggins's rushing record, set in Super Bowl XVII the previous year.

Say what you will about Al Davis, but on this occasion at least, his team fulfilled his commandment to "Just Win Baby" in grand style. The Raiders completely dismantled the defending champion Redskins. Allen, who picked up 191 yards and two touchdowns on only 20 carries, shattered the rushing record that John Riggins had set the previous year. Los Angeles secured an early lead when Derrick Jensen blocked a Washington punt and recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown. The Raider defense sacked Washington's Joe Theismann six times and limited the Redskins to only 90 yards rushing for the game. The AFC has not won a Super Bowl since.
