Washington utilized multiple defensive looks and schemes to force four Jim Kelly interceptions and sack the Buffalo quarterback five times. The game wasn't as close as the score would indicate. Washington led 37-10 before Buffalo scored two touchdowns in the last six minutes to make the final score more respectable. Thurman Thomas, the league's regular season MVP, was awful, losing his helmet before the game's first play and losing his way on the field, gaining only 13 yards on ten carries. On the other hand, Rypien was sensational, connecting on 18 of his 33 attempts for 292 yards and two touchdowns.
