Sarah, 16, won three swimming gold medals in the girls' 15-17 division and set two state age-group records at the Games of Texas. Her marks came in the 50-yard butterfly, in 29.01, and the 100 individual medley, in 1:06.53. She also won the 50 backstroke, in 30.66.

Mitskavich, 30, rolled games of 288, 289 and 300 for a 877 series, breaking the Women's International Bowling Congress record of 865, set four years ago by Anne Marie Duggan of Edmond, Okla. Mitskavich followed that with games of 289 and 240 to set the marks for four- and five-game series.

Ricky, 9, in his first full season of dirt motorcycle racing, won state titles at half a mile for his age class (15-and-under) in both Ohio and Indiana. Riding his 80-cc bike in the 125-cc class, he has had seven first-place finishes and was clocked at 93 mph on the straightaway at the Indianapolis Mile.

Lorien, 17, was the outside hitter on the City Beach-Green volleyball team that won the girls' national 18-and-under club-division title. She also teamed with Brandi Mount to win the U.S. girls 18 gold doubles and with Steve Santonastaso to win the national mixed A gold adults.

BROOKLYN

Conley, 40, and Robin, 12, set records in the high jump and in running, respectively. Conley, a physical education instructor and assistant track and field coach at West Point, leaped 7'3/4" at the Empire State Games to break the masters world mark of 6'11 1/2", established by James Barrineau of Washington, D.C., in 1995. Robin set two national records for 12-year-old girls at the East Coast Invitational. Competing in the 13-14 age group, she won the 400 meters in 56.00, surpassing by .04 of a second the mark set by Sherrelle Brown in '78, and the 800 in 2:12.75, beating the '75 record of Sharon Hules by .39.
