David, who just turned 13, won a gold medal in the 11-12 middleweight division at the U.S. Junior Olympic taekwondo championships by beating six rivals in a span of three hours. A second-degree black belt, he was also a winner at the Indianapolis International and the Ohio state championships.

John Ray, 17, won the boys' division of the Polo Golf Southwestern Junior Classic, withstanding a final-round eagle and two birdies over the last nine holes by runner-up Bill Lowry, 17, of Ada, Okla. John Ray won by three strokes with an eight-under-par 208 for the 54 holes.

MELBOURNE, FLA.

Keener, 30, won her 100th career USTA-sanctioned tennis championship when she beat Nicole Kuhne, 26, of St. Petersburg, 6-1, 6-1 in the women's 25 division (for players 25 and over) of the Florida Classic. Excluding a 15-month maternity leave, Keener has averaged a title a month since 1990.

TREXLERTOWN, PA.

Lindenmuth, 18, won the 17-18 sprint division at the EDS Junior Cycling Championships in Trexlertown. Cheered on by the home crowd, she defeated Mandy Osbourn, 18, of Broomfield, Colo., in consecutive rides. She broke the track record for the 500 meters with a clocking of 39.392 seconds.

ALEXANDRIA, VA.

Knowles, 25, a physical-education teacher and football and wrestling coach at Sussex Central High, outlifted two former meet champions to win the superheavyweight title at the World Natural Powerlifting Federation Open. He squatted 735 pounds, bench-pressed 455 and deadlifted 665 for a total lift of 1,855. Roberts, 34, a motivational speaker who specializes in talking to kids about staying drug free, won the Best Female Lifter award for bench press at the East Coast Classic after bench-pressing 250 pounds. She has been ranked in the top 20 nationally in her weight class (181 pounds) in the squat, bench press and deadlift for the last three years.
