Kudrnac and Vladulescu won the men's and women's singles titles at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association clay-court championships. Kudrnac, a senior at Oklahoma State and the Big 12 singles titlist last season, needed only 50 minutes to defeat Kentucky senior Cedric Kauffmann 6-1, 6-1. Vladulescu, a freshman at Alabama-Birmingham, won the first tournament of her college career, as a qualifier, defeating Agnes Muzamel, a junior at Mississippi, 6-2, 6-2. In 11 qualifying and tournament matches, she lost only one of 23 sets. She beat five players who were ranked in the top 15 of the college preseason poll.
