HELSINKI
Miettinen, a junior forward on the Franklin Pierce College
women's soccer team, led the Ravens to a 17-0 record. As
she did last year, when she helped
Franklin Pierce win the Division II title for the third straight
year, Miettinen led the division in
scoring, with 67 points on 28 goals and 11
assists.

Jason, 17, placed 22nd all-around as a member of the U.S.
team that was fifth at the world gymnastics championships.
He's the youngest male gymnast to compete on a national
team at the worlds. Earlier this year, he came in third in
the all-around at the
U.S.
championships.

PITTSBURGH
Wharton, a senior middle blocker on the Bucknell volleyball
team, as of last Friday led the Patriot League in hitting
percentage with a .381 for her career and a .422 for this
season. She also was atop the conference in kills (326) and
solo blocks (67)
for this year as the Bisons amassed a 15-7
record.

Wilde, 47, became the first compound-bow archer to win
indoor and outdoor world championships in the same year. He
beat Terry Ragsdale of Tucson 109-105 outdoors. Indoors he
defeated Tom Crowe of Welches, Ore., 118-115. Wilde's total
score of 354 out of
a possible 360 set a world indoor
record.

Whaley, 37, won two titles at the International Cycling
Union World Masters Challenge. In the 35-39 division sprint
final, he defeated Geoff Stoker of Australia by the width
of a tire. He won the kilo (1,000 meters) by a more
comfortable margin of .85
of a
second.

POLAND,
OHIO
Louie, 14, led the Poland Middle School football team to a
7-0 record. Playing fullback, he finished the season with
944 yards rushing on 79 carries and had 14 touchdowns. In
the Bull Dogs' 56-22 defeat of Struthers Middle School he
had touchdown runs
of 80, 40, 35 and 30
yards.
