HUBER HEIGHTS, OHIO

Michelle, a freshman at Wayne High, won the state Division I girls' singles tennis championship by defeating senior Brandy Steinhauser of Boardman High in Youngstown 6-1, 6-1. For the season, Michelle had a 31-0 record and lost only one set and 51 games.

PAOLA, KANS.

Shay, a junior running back for Emporia State, finished atop Division II in scoring (198 points) and all-purpose yards (2,723) this season while leading the Hornets to a 7-4 record. He holds the division single-season marks for all-purpose yards (2,738 in 1996), points and touchdowns (32 in '97).

AIKEN, S.C.

Fordham, 40, guided the Kennedy Middle School girls' volleyball team to a 10-0 record and the district championship for the seventh straight year. The Eagles have a 62-match winning streak that began with the last two matches of the 1991 season. Fordham has amassed a 187-6 career record.

LAKE MARY, FLA.

Anderson, a sophomore at UNLV, won the individual title at the GolfWorld Invitational. He finished four strokes ahead of runner-up David Christensen of East Tennessee State, with a 13-under-par 203 for 54 holes, and led the Rebels to second place in the team competition.

MOUNTAINTOP, PA.

Carissa, a junior forward on the 23-1 Crestwood High field hockey team, broke three Wyoming Valley Conference records this year, for goals (34), career goals (81) and career scoring (190 points). In 1996 she had three goals for a U.S. team that was second in the under-16 select championships.

TYLER, TEXAS

Ruby, 40, a dentist who was seeded 20th, won the U.S. Croquet Association championship. He defeated top-seeded John Osborn, 38, of Palm Beach, Fla., 21-13 in the final round to remain unbeaten in his 12 matches during the weeklong tournament.
