REDLANDS, CALIF.

Stewart, 35, who lost his left arm below the elbow as a result of a roofing accident in 1980, placed first in the disabled division and fourth overall in the San Diego Triathlon Challenge. He completed the 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and 13.1-mile run in 4:54:51.

Noriega

  Sarah Noriega
ULYSSES, KANS.

Noriega, a senior outside hitter for the Loyola Marymount women's volleyball team, led the nation with 6.92 kills per game this year. She also set an NCAA record for kills in a four-game match (47) in a 3-1 win over San Diego. The 21st-ranked Lions ended the regular season with a 21-6 record.

Withrow

  Jana Withrow
HOCKESSIN, DEL.

Withrow, a senior goalie on the North Carolina field hockey team, set the ACC career record for shutouts with 46. A first-team All-America, she led the Tar Heels to a 20-3 record and a third-consecutive NCAA championship this season. She also is a member of the national team.

Klein

  Jare Klein
MARSHALL, MICH.

Klein, 62, coach of the Olivet College wrestling team, earned his 500th victory when the Comets won four matches at the Knox College Duals. As of Sunday he had a 30-year career record of 508-112-6 and a .812 winning percentage at Olivet. Klein was inducted into the NCAA Division III Hall of Fame in 1992.

HONOLULU

Joe, a junior running back for the Iolani School, set a Honolulu Interscholastic League single-season rushing record of 1,567 yards, surpassing the old mark of 1,483 yards in the Raiders' 17-6 victory over Damien High. He had 20 touchdowns this year, one shy of the league record.

SANTE FE

Alexandra, a senior forward on the St. Michael's High girls' soccer team, became the state's alltime leader in goals with 147. She was New Mexico's top girl scorer in 1994, '95 and '97, and her 46 goals this season led the 18-4 Lady Horsemen to the state championship.
