MUHAMMAD ALI vs. HENRY
COOPER, tko 6
May 21, 1966/London,
England
In 1966, Ali gave title shots to three overmatched
Europeans in a four-month span. During the first of a trio
of trans-Atlantic stopovers, the champ met the popular,
paper-skinned Englishman known as "Good Old 'Enry." In
preparation for the bout, Cooper
tried desperately to toughen his thin skin with brine, an
alum-based salve and vitamins. These magic potions lasted
less than five and a half
rounds.
