In 1976 Chris Evert won two Grand Slam events. She defeated Evonne Goolagong to win the singles title at the Wimbledon -- where she also teamed with Martina Navratilova to capture the doubles championship -- and beat her again in singles at the U.S. Open. Evert also set a women's tennis record by earning $343,165 in prize money for the year. Only 21, she had already won two Wimbledons, two U.S. Opens, two French Opens, two Italian Opens, three Virginia Slims and 101 consecutive matches on clay.
