Union was a no-show and the United States came up huge,
winning a world-best 174 medals. Americans Nancy Hogshead,
Jenna Johnson, Carrie Steinseifer and Dara Torres earned
gold in the women's 400m
freestyle relay, beating second-place Holland by nearly
a full
second.
