 | Comerica Park

All those baseball fans enamored with Tiger Stadium have to
admit the new digs are something to behold. From the gargantuan stone tigers
positioned outside the front gates to the incredible sight lines that make
sitting in any seat a treat -- you can see downtown over the right-field fence
-- Comerica is the most underrated ballpark to open in the last decade. It
hasn't drawn the national accolades heaped on places like Camden Yards or Pac
Bell Park, but it is just as
spectacular.

 | Henry Ford Museum, Dearborn

You can't come to the Motor City and ignore this
landmark. You'll see vintage cars and learn about the history of the automobile.
If that's not enough, you can always check out Greenfield Village, where you'll
discover what life was like when horses and carriages constituted luxury
transportation.

 | Greektown

The area surrounding Comerica Park has taken off in recent years,
but Greektown is still the most established neighborhood for social activities.
There are several options for restaurants and bars -- and if you want both,
Fishbone's on Monroe Street is your spot.

 | Renaissance Center

This is easily the most mystifying structure in
Detroit proper. It's home to several shops, restaurants, offices and a movie
theater, but it's got the charm of an operating room and you're likely to get
hopelessly lost in the place even with the help of a map. Bottom line: Stay
away.

 | Isiah Thomas scoring a record 25 third-quarter points in Game 6 of the NBA
Finals, 1988

The Pistons of that era embodied Detroit's personality --
unassuming, determined, industrious -- and no performance was more awe-inspiring
than Thomas', as he heaved point after point on the Lakers despite having a severely
sprained ankle. The Pistons eventually lost the series, but that effort
convinced the world of one thing: No matter what you thought of the Bad Boys,
you couldn't question their
heart.
