A trip down memory lane The Montreal Expos joined Major League Baseball as an expansion team in 1969. The club has never won a World Series or even a League Championship Series. Rather than winning titles, the franchise will probably be best remembered for having been enormously affected by two strikes in two very different ways. As a result of the shortened season in 1981, Montreal beat Philadelphia in a best-of-five playoff series to win the National League East. In 1994, however, the Expos had the best record in the majors before a work stoppage ended the season. With the team now on the verge of leaving Montreal -- and perhaps being eliminated from baseball altogether -- CNNSI.com put together a collection of Sports Illustrated photos and flashbacks (1977, 1983, 1984) for a trip down memory lane.
