Prop 48 player academically ineligible as a freshman. Chose to leave for the draft after a big season instead of trying for a fifth-year of eligibility. Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year after leading all Division I-AA in rushing last season with 285/2,096/7.4/24, also registering 38/424/11.2/4 catching the ball. Voted onto several All-American teams as well. Numbers were 202/1,188/5.9/13 in 2000 when he also caught 19/178/9.4/1. Split time as a ""redshirt freshman"" in 1999 and still rushed for 889 yards.
Nice-sized runner that could eventually grow into a fullback. Powerful and aggressive carrying the ball, keeps his feet moving forward, breaking tackles and picking up a lot of yardage off initial contact. Keeps the play in bounds, uses an effective straight arm and puts his shoulders into opponents falling forward to pick up the extra yardage on his way down. More than a road-grader and a patient back that displays vision, waits for his blocks to develop and follows them. Some shiftiness in a small area and also an effective target out of the backfield. Not elusive, quick and lacks corner speed. His abilities and production carrying the ball precluded him from ever being asked to block in college. Lack of overall speed is a concern but good size/strength numbers could get him late round consideration as either a fullback or short yardage runner. Mid Seventh Round.
