Three-year starter that also played half a season with the first unit as a redshirt freshman. Second team All-Conference selection last year passing for 56.6%/2,247/13/9, adding six more touchdowns running the ball. Posted 52.6%/2,332/19/11 as a junior when he also accumulated 358 yards rushing, adding five scores. Sophomore numbers were 58%/2,359/14/12 passing with 490 yards rushing and eight more scores.
Big-armed passer lacking in quarterback fundamentals. Quick releasing the pass, immediately gets the ball out of his hands and zips the outs. Huge arm, drives the ball downfield and puts a lot of air under his deep throws. Follows through nicely and accurate when he throws with proper technique. Strong running with the ball displaying the ability to pick up a lot of yardage with his legs. Does not force his throws but lacks patience in the pocket, free-lances too much and rushes his decision making when pressured. Throws with an inconsistent point of release; slings the ball from the side and has a three-quarters motion. Does not sense pressure, makes bad decisions throwing on the run and all to often tries to direct his passes. Does not see the field, find the safety and misses open targets. Must learn to sell his play-action passes and buy time in the pocket. Not quick setting up or throwing the ball off a three step drop, does not seem to have a sense of timing and receivers are constantly waiting on his throws. Poor fundamentals has an adverse effect on his accuracy and it would be classified as "adequate" at best. Though mobile he has a tendency to get overweight in the past which hurt his ability to elude the rush. A top athlete with a big league arm that must be schooled in quarterbacking fundamentals from A to Z. Never showed a consistent patter of improvement in any aspect of his game the past three-years. Needs time, development and patience, which could land him in Europe next season. Could be a solid prospect if he learns the intangibles of his position but right now a project in the works. Early Sixth Round.
