BIO: Spent time at both running back and safety at Michigan before transferring to USC in ‘01. Second-team All-Conference selection last season carrying the ball 161 times for 715 yards with seven scores. Added eight receptions for 101 yards. Carried the ball 77-277-1 as a true freshman for the Wolverines before breaking a leg during the 10th game of the campaign. The injury required three surgeries, two titanium rods, and 12 screws before it was properly healed. Played sparingly the following two seasons before undergoing a fourth surgery at USC. Sparkled in the post season displaying great hands at the Senior Bowl then running a pair of 40s at the Scouting Combine in the low 4.3 area.
POSITIVES: Big interior back who displays a variety of skills. Powerful runner that aggressively takes on opponents and lays his shoulders into defenders, breaking the first tackle and picking up a lot of yardage off initial contact. Displays vision and patience, follows blocks and quickly finds the running lanes. Good football instinct and not just a bruising back but one who displays elusiveness in a short area. Works his runs and always finds a way to pick up positive yardage through the small openings on the field. Doles out a lot of punishment and gets stronger as the game proceeds, taking the important hand-offs late in the contest. Has adequate hands out of the backfield and effective when called upon to block.
NEGATIVES: Lacks the great footwork or ability to bounce it to the outside and though he shows a good burst of speed, not a ball carrier who can run to daylight or one that plays to his recently timed forty.
ANALYSIS: Solid showing during Senior Bowl week and the Scouting Combine greatly improved his draft ranking the his surgically repaired leg could push him down boards. Given medical clearance by most all teams. A solid Number One back at the next level if he can remain healthy.
