Grading System
JOHN HAMPTON
Position: TE
Class: Sr
School: SMU
Conference: WAC
Ht., Wt.: 6'2, 240
40 Time: 4.82
Grade: 3.12

BIO: One of SMU's most reliable targets the past three years. Totaled 33 receptions for 454 yards with three scores as a senior after 35-459-1 the prior year and 46-572-4 as a sophomore when he led the team in receiving.

POSITIVES: Hard working pass catcher who may project to H-back. Quick releasing off the line of scrimmage, breaks down well and plays with leverage. Stays focused, concentrates and makes the difficult catch in a crowd. Sees the field then finds the soft spot in the defense and uses his body to shield away opponents or protect the pass. Extends and snares the high throw out of the air.

NEGATIVES: Does not explode into his run blocks, undersized and lacks strength at the point of attack. Not fleet of foot or one that makes plays down the field.

ANALYSIS: At face value a prospect with terrible size-speed numbers but an effort type player who could bounce around from camp to camp and may find a home for a team that keeps four tight ends.

PROJECTION: Undrafted Free Agent
