BIO: Record-setting running back. All-Conference selection as a senior after 271 rushing attempts, 2,087 yards and 20 scores. Also totaled 41 receptions for 349 yards with three more TDs. The first Nittany Lion to lead the nation in rushing and all-purpose yardage. Named to several All-America teams as a senior and given the Doak Walker Award as the nation's top running back. Started five games as a junior totaling 71-337-2 on the ground with 11-136-2 as a pass catcher. 2000 totals were 75-358-3 carrying the ball. Recently completed a pair of 40s in the low 4.4 range.
POSITIVES: Big, bodied interior runner with top ball carrying skills. Displays both vision and patience, sets up blocks and then follows them at the line of scrimmage or down the field. Powerful in his lower body, breaks the first tackle and carries opponents for several yards, picking up yardage off initial contact. Sets up defenders in a small area then side steps them or uses an effective straight arm to stay on his feet. Works his runs and falls forward when tackled, picking up the extra yardage. Work horse back who gets better the more hand offs he takes yet a battering ram who runs with a good degree of intelligence. Effective inside tackle but also adequate running around corner. Runs through defenders or darts through the openings in the defense and avoids contact altogether. Effective receiver out of the backfield and has also been used to return kicks with a good degree of success.
NEGATIVES: Not a quick or sudden runner, lacks elusiveness and has an upright style.
ANALYSIS: Pulled the pieces together as a senior improving his consistency, production and ability to be the feature runner some 10 fold. A player with innate running skills who should be productive right out of the gate.
