BIO: Former fullback that impacted the Penn State defense the past three seasons. All-Conference selection as a senior and Big 10 Player of the Year by the media after amassing 80 tackles with 23 tackles for loss and 15 sacks. Junior numbers were 41-11-4 in 10 starts after 31-7-6 in 2000 when he started two games.
POSITIVES: Explosive lineman who annihilates opposing QBs yet also effectively defends the run. Possesses a great first step off the snap, rushes the edge with speed and gets tremendous force up the field. Plays with leverage, forward lean and quickly alters his angle of attack, pursuing the action from the backside with speed. Deceptively strong and slides off blocks or defeats them altogether on his way to the ball carrier. Technically solid with his hands and fights to keep opponents away. Redirects to the action well, squares and wraps up tackling. Also displays the skills to be used off the line of scrimmage in pass coverage on zone blitz situations.
NEGATIVES: Gets wired in blocks on occasion and if he does not beat opponents with his first move, he'll have trouble beating them at all. Slow locating the ball or reading the action.
ANALYSIS: Stepped up his game as a senior and met the expectations we placed on him after the 2000 season. May take a while to get adjusted to the size and strength at the next level but should still be a pass rushing terror who eventually grows into a complete defensive end.
