BIO: Junior college transfer who came to Iowa in 2001. Started every game last season completing 57.8 percent of his passes for 2,573 yards with 26 TDs and five INTs. All-Conference selection and a second team All-American selection last year as well as Big 10 Offensive Player of the Year and A.P. Player of the Year. Saw action in 10 games as a junior completing 41 passes for 582 yards with four scores and two INTs.
POSITIVES: Athletic, collegiate passer coming off a tremendous senior campaign. Quickly sets up in the pocket with solid footwork, immediately delivers the ball off a three step drop and eludes the rush, making positive plays on the move. Poised and patient, knows where his wide outs are on the field and goes through receiver progressions. Does not make bad choices or force his throws, stays with the play when things break down and takes off up the field if nothing is available to him. Sells his play action passes. Intermediate range throws display speed and also puts touch on the ball when necessary.
NEGATIVES: Does not always see the passing lanes because of his height and must roll outside of tackle to have a clear view of the field. Does not drive his passes downfield and only marginal long accuracy. Overall pass placement as well as arm strength could be classified as average.
ANALYSIS: Stepped up to the plate in 2002 and proved he can command an offense and lead a team to victory. While he offers good intangibles, the lack of pocket stature and pure arm strength will push him deep into the draft. A poor man's Jake Plummer.
PROJECTION: Late Sixth Round
