OAK 27 OAK 35 3 8 1:31 PUNT 3 20
Raiders' ball: QB Rich Gannon tried to get into a rhythm, hitting Jerry Porter and Doug Jolley for short passes to start the half, but sterling coverage from Brian Kelly on third down sent the Raiders' offense off the field again.

Bucs' ball: The Bucs passed on six of their first seven plays to open the game, but with a 17-point lead to open the second half, they took a predictably opposite approach and ran on the first four plays. Even the never-nimble Brad Johnson got into the act, ripping off a 10-yard scramble -- and then you knew the Raider D was tired. The run opened the door for Johnson's passing game, as the Bucs QB connected with Keyshawn Johnson, Joe Jurevicius (twice), Ken Dilger and, finally, Keenan McCardell for an 8-yard score to cap off the longest drive of the game.
Key Play: A 33-yard pass from Brad Johnson to Jurevicius got the Bucs to the Oakland 14 and made it painfully clear that the Raiders (namely, Anthony Dorsett) can't check Big Joe downfield.

Raiders' ball: It's a good thing the Super Bowl commercials are enjoyable, because this game has entered the long, undistinguished realm of Super Bowl routs. Dwight Smith broke perfectly on a Gannon-to-Jerry Rice pass on the left sideline, taking it back Ronde Barber-style for what could be the nail in the Raiders' coffin.
Key Play: On second and 2, Gannon's lazy pass never got to Rice as Bucs defensive back Dwight Smith took it back to the house.

Raiders' ball: The Bucs backed off on defense, allowing the Raiders to mount their first sustained drive of the game. Gannon finally looked comfortable throwing on the run, connecting with Doug Jolley for a key 25-yard gain. The Raiders found the end zone when cover man Dwight Smith fell down, leaving Porter open for a 39-yard score.
Key Play: How rattled is Gannon? He nearly missed a wide-open Porter on the 39-yard touchdown play on third and 3. The pass initially was ruled incomplete, but that was overturned on a replay challenge.

Bucs' ball: The chances of the Bucs passing the ball on this drive were about as good as Rich Gannon's shot at Super Bowl MVP. The Michael Pittman Show, it seemed, would lull the Raider D to sleep, but their special teams unit stayed alert enough to pull off the surprise play of the second half: Oakland linebacker Tim Johnson blocked Tom Tupa's punt, and safety Eric Johnson scooped it up for a TD.
Key Play: There was only one -- Oakland's version of the Johnson & Johnson connection, with the blocked punt and the 13-yard return for the score. It may have been too little, too late, but it gave the Raiders a much-needed boost of confidence.

TAM 24 OAK 11 9 58 5:14 BOTCHED FG 15 34
Bucs' ball: The Raiders needed a big stop to capitalize on their new-found momentum; instead, they killed themselves with penalties. Back-to-back flags on Oakland -- albeit one a brutal pass interference call on Charles Woodson -- kept the Buccaneer drive alive long enough to run more than five minutes off the clock and set up another Gramatica FG try. Tupa botched the snap, however, and Gramatica was smothered by the Raider D. Tupa, mysteriously, seemed to be conspiring against a blowout.

OAK 22 TAM 48 8 78 2:56 TD 21 34
Jerry Rice finally makes his presence known with this TD. AP
Raiders' ball: Gannon seemed content to settle for the short stuff, dinking and dunking his way into Bucs territory. He finally went for the big play and hit it as Rice streaked through a hole in the Bucs' deep zone for an easy touchdown. Unfortunately for Oakland, it missed a 2-point conversion for the third consecutive time. The Raiders are back within 13 points, but with just over six minutes left, is it too late?
Key Play: Nobody picked up Rice on a third and 13, and a settled-down Gannon found him with a frozen rope of a spriral for the score, begging the question, why didn't they do this earlier?

TAM 20 TAM 35 6 15 3:09 PUNT 21 34
Bucs' ball: The Raiders eschew the onside kick option, as Sebastian Janikowski continues to establish himself as the best line-drive kickoff specialist in the league. Too bad it's not much of an asset. Oakland's inability to pick up Mike Alstott in the flat hurts them once again, as the Buc back converted a key third and 9 with 5:17 remaining. The Bucs are fully dedicated to grinding the out the clock at this point, but they still left the Raiders three minutes with which to mount a comeback.

OAK 26 OAK 29 4 3 1:17 INT/TD 21 41
Derrick Brooks wasn't about to be upstaged by Dwight Smith and Dexter Jackson. AP
Raiders' ball: As Montgomery Burns once said, "Release the hounds!" Warren Sapp pinned his ears back and brought Gannon down for a 9-yard loss, setting up a third-and-18 situation. Derrick Brooks took over from there, floating over to his left for an easy interception and turning on the afterburners for the Bucs' second defensive touchdown of the game.
Key Play: Gannon forced a pass downfield to Marcus Knight, allowing Brooks to pick it off and return it 44 yards for his (not a misprint) fifth touchdown return of the year.

OAK 27 TAM 48 5 24 1:17 INT/TD 21 48
Dwight Smith was untouched on his second trip to the house. AP
Raiders' ball: When did Gannon turn into Ray Lucas? For the second time in six plays, the Bucs returned an INT for a score. Smith again did the honors, giving him two scores on the day. Unfortunately, Dexter Jackson -- who had his two picks before the MVP votes were in -- was just named the game's MVP. Someone just suggested a recount.
Key Play: How many different ways can you describe a pass intended for Marcus Knight that's intercepted and returned for a touchdown?

The Bucs kicked off with 2 seconds remaining in the game. Time expired during the ensuing return, which ended at the Raiders' 36.
