Position:WR Class: Sr School:
Oregon St. Conference:
Pac-10 Ht., Wt.: 6'0½, 213 40 Time: 4.85 Grade: 3.36
BIO: Led Oregon State in all receiving categories the past three seasons. Totaled a career best 81/1,306/3 after junior totals of 74/1,284/12 and 57/968/5 as a sophomore.
POSITIVES: Reliable receiver with a natural feel for the game. Displays focus and football intelligence to get the job done. Fluid releasing off the line, runs adequate routes then uses his body to shield defenders. Times and anticipates his receptions, lays out or extends to make the tough grab in traffic. Gets vertical and pulls the ball out of the air. Goes over the middle, takes a pounding and holds onto the ball. Can double-cut and get separation.
NEGATIVES: Lacks the get-up-and-go speed and ran very poorly at the Combine and in individual workouts.
ANALYSIS: A terrific football player, Newson has almost a sixth sense on the field and a great feel for the position. Not fast or big but a solid wide out that can produce at the next level.
