BIO: On-and-off starter who broke in with the first team as a red-shirt freshman. Saw extensive starting action at center early in his career before being moved to left guard.
POSITIVES: Tough, hard-working blocker with the ability to play several positions on the line. Explosive at the point, blocks with good lean and stays square. Adequately adjusts to defenders, displays footwork in space and quick hand punch. Strong upper body and rides opponents from their angle of attack.
NEGATIVES: Lacks balance, a dominant base and can not finish blocks. Set back by a torn right biceps tendon in 2002 which required surgery to correct.
ANALYSIS: Finishing an up-and-down career on a high note, Vandermade has the ability to fill several spots at the next level. Looked like a top center prospect early in college yet did a fine job at guard last season. Lacks the natural bulk and size but has the athletic and movement skills for a team like the Broncos who ask their lineman to play in space.
