Position:FB Class: Sr School:
Big Ten Ht., Wt.: 5'9, 221 40 Time: 4.71 Grade: 3.18
BIO: Three-year starter that also played extensively as a red-shirt freshman. Underwent arthroscopic surgery in August and only played in nine games last season, carrying the ball 44/198/0. Did have 39 receptions for 236 yards with one touchdown. Led the team in rushing as a junior with 59/319 and also caught 29/201.
POSITIVES: Undersized, hard-working fullback with some potential as a triple-threat player. Aggressive blocking, displays pop at the point of attack and works to finish off defenders. Displays the same skills carrying the ball and shows the ability to break tackles and pick up yardage off initial contact. Solid receiver that extends his hands, catches the pass away from his frame then works to pick up yardage running after the reception.
NEGATIVES: Not quick out of his stance, lacks overall speed and not decisive with blocking assignments. Though he gives effort, cannot finish blocks.
ANALYSIS: Possessing poor size for a lead fullback, Carey does not play to his timed 40 speed which makes the situation worse. His production and skill as a receiver out of the backfield give him an outside shot to stick on a final roster next September.
