BIO: All-conference performer as a senior with passing numbers of 59.8 percent/3,679/37/14 which included five touchdown passes against Texas A&M and 419 passing yards against West Virginia. Also added 136/365/2 carrying the ball. Junior totals as a passer were 52.3 percent/2,783/22/12.
POSITIVES: Left-handed quarterback that's displayed consistent improvement the past two seasons. Quickly sets up in the pocket, displays patience and effective when he throws with proper fundamentals. Effective passing on the move, puts touch on throws and quickly gets the ball out of his hand when necessary. A consistent threat to pick up yardage with his legs outside of tackle.
NEGATIVES: Runs hot and cold and can be streaky. Indecisive against the rush, does not improvise or show top wherewithal. Lacks a sense of timing and does not always find the safety. Surprisingly displayed marginal arm strength at the Combine.
ANALYSIS: A big athlete, Rutherford needs to improve the finer details of the quarterback position. Known as a hard worker who wants to improve his game, he is worth the investment as Rutherford has a good upside for the future.
