BIO: Became a full-time starter as a senior after being moved in and out of the first unit the previous three years. Posted 82/2/10 last year after 51/3/11 as a junior and 21/1/17 during his sophomore campaign.
POSITIVES: Nice-sized, aggressive cornerback effective in all areas on the field. Fluid turning his hips, loses nothing in transition and has the speed to run with receivers down the field. Breaks down well, keeps the action in front of him and gets vertical then contorts to defend the throw. Quickly plants then breaks on the pass and shows a burst of closing speed. Does a solid job keeping the play in front of him.
NEGATIVES: Aggressive defending the run and wraps up tackling, but not strong at the point of attack and has difficulty bringing down opponents on initial contact. Lacks the top footwork and plays back on his heels. Not quick locating the ball in the air and at times slow turning back to make a play on the pass.
ANALYSIS: With his long, lean build, Spencer has the skills necessary to be a nickel back at the next level and eventually start in a system that uses its cornerbacks off the line of scrimmage. Needs to physically improve his strength and become a little quicker recognizing the action but has the upside to compete in the NFL.
