BIO: Two year starter who was a top backup at right tackle as a sophomore.
POSITIVES: Big, tough, aggressive blocker best on the strong side. Quick off the snap setting up in pass protection, jolts opponents with his hands and extends his arms to keep defenders from the action. Effective out on the second level, removes linebackers from the action and works hard to finish blocks. Plays with balance, bends his knees and turns opponents off the line blocking for the run.
NEGATIVES: Struggles in space, lacks footwork and the larger the area he must cover the taller he tends to play. Blocks with a narrow base and tends to do more leaning than actual blocking at times. Has trouble finishing blocks.
ANALYSIS: Sampson has both the size and athleticism to work with at the next level and could find his way as a backup on an NFL roster. The versatility to play right tackle or even guard makes him all the more appealing.
