BIO: Hudson Valley CC transfer who started off like a house on fire as USF but has since cooled. Totaled 39/516/2 as a senior after 26/383/3 the prior season. Set school records for receptions and receiving yards as a red-shirt sophomore when he started seven games and finished with 52/582/2.
POSITIVES: King-sized wide out that flashes dominant abilities on occasion. Big, uses his size as an advantage and boxes out or shields opposing defensive backs from the play. Has long arms, big hands and gives the quarterback an imposing target. Fights to make the difficult reception, displays focus and concentration then keeps the play in bounds and works to pick up positive yardage running after the catch. Tracks the deep pass well and adjusts to the errant throw running full tilt. Consistently extends to catch the pass away from his frame.
NEGATIVES: Lacks the quick release off the line, not a smooth route runner and plays slower than his 40 time. Does not offer soft hands, nor is he natural looking at times.
ANALYSIS: After a lights-out campaign in 2001, much more was expected from Whittaker than was delivered. His play the last two seasons leaves a lot to be desired but his size is enticing and will get him looks in the later rounds.
