BIO: Ohio State transfer who led the team in rushing as a senior, posting 138/560/5. Junior totals included 51/305/3.
POSITIVES: Well-built running back who displayed signs of life as a senior. Powerful ballcarrier who looks like a bull running between tackle and has the ability to carry the pile and pick up yardage off initial contact. Displays a burst of speed through the hole and has the agility to get around the corner. Works to find the running lanes and plays with an aggressive style. Quickly picks up blitz assignments as a blocker and displays strength at the point of attack in pass protection.
NEGATIVES: Does not run with great balance. Must be more concerned with ball security. Straight-line runner who has difficulty changing direction at full speed. Lacks soft hands out of the backfield.
ANALYSIS: A highly touted recruit out of high school, Maldonado was nothing more than a part-time player until last season. Displayed flashes of skill as a feature runner in 2004, which will get him invited to camp this summer.
