BIO: All-Conference selection as a senior, when he totaled 78/10/2. Played in three games as a junior before tearing the ACL in his left knee. Awarded All-America and All-Conference honors after posting 124/19/3 during the '02 campaign.
POSITIVES: Well-built, athletic linebacker with the ability to be used in the middle or on the outside. Active run defender who diagnoses the action, immediately locates the ball and display skills in pursuit. Quick changing direction, squirms through blocks and fires to the action. Breaks down well, rarely off his feet and strong at the point. Takes good angles and rarely caught out of position. Gets depth on pass drops and displays solid range with the ability to make plays in all directions. Plays faster then his 40 time.
NEGATIVES: Did not play with great authority as a senior coming off his knee injury. Not decisive in coverage and hesitant last year. Lost a step of speed off the knee surgery.
ANALYSIS: After a seemingly slow start last year, Mitchell picked it up as the season moved along and finished up with a good showing at the Senior Bowl. Has the versatility to be used at several positions, which will make him an invaluable backup in the NFL.
