BIO: Used in a rotational system last season and came away with 26/348/2 catching the ball. Posted career numbers in 2001 with 30 receptions for 396 yards. Sat out the 2000 and 2002 seasons with knee injuries.
POSITIVES: Athletic pass-catching tight end who plays faster than his listed time. Fluid releasing off the line of scrimmage, runs well laterally and adjusts backwards to make the errant reception. Keeps his focus and pulls the tough reception out of a crowd, then quickly turns it up the field, picking up good yardage running after the catch. Natural receiver who displays excellent eye/hand coordination and a good degree of consistency. Solid position blocker who gets out front and displays the ability to remove linebackers from the action.
NEGATIVES: Does not block with much balance, strength and gets marginal results. Not explosive at the point. Has a history of knee injuries, which will send up red flags.
ANALYSIS: Torn knee ligaments hampered Scaife's development and limited his playing time the past three seasons. Has the potential to be effective as a .move. tight end in the NFL yet must remain healthy to have any chance of making it.
