2005 NFL Draft Draft Tracker Round 1 Round 2 Round 3 Round 4 Round 5 Round 6 Round 7 Players Positions Schools Conferences NFL Teams

 Jon Beutjer Grade: 3.12
 Position: QB
 Class: Sr
 School: Illinois
 Conference: Big Ten
 Ht., Wt.: 6-4.5, 215
 40 Time: 4.77

BIO: Part-time starter the past three seasons who totaled 56.9 percent/1,082/8/4 as a senior. Posted career numbers of 59 percent/2,511/21/11 in 2002.

POSITIVES: Tall, pocket passer with solid size/speed numbers. Sets up with solid footwork, sells ball fakes and is patient. Buys time for receivers, letting them come free before releasing the ball. Above-average arm strength, zips the intermediate throws and hits receivers as they exit breaks. Passes with an over-the-top delivery.

NEGATIVES: Cannot drive the deep ball and not effective passing on the move. Looks like a slow, lumbering quarterback regardless of his 40 time. Lacks precise accuracy and passes take off on him.

ANALYSIS: After displaying signs of being a prospect during the 2002 campaign, Beutjer has watched his play level off. A competitive passer with tools at his disposal, may need more one-on-one coaching to iron out the rough edges.

PROJECTION: Undrafted Free Agent
