 Lionel Gates Grade: 3.32
 Position: HB
 Class: Sr
 School: Louisville
 Conference: C-USA
 Ht., Wt.: 5-11.5, 222
 40 Time: 4.76
  Selected by: Buffalo Bills
  Round 7, pick 22 (236 overall)

BIO: Used in a rotational system the past three seasons, finishing his senior campaign with totals of 76/373/7 on the ground, adding 10/71/2 catching the ball. Career numbers came the prior year with 141/817/11 carrying the ball and 25/368 as a pass catcher.

POSITIVES: Nice-sized interior runner with a burst of straight line speed. Aggressive in all aspects of the game, powerful and carries the pile for extra yardage. Displays surprising speed in the open field and plays faster then his 40 time. Keeps his feet moving, quick through the hole and works runs. Patient back with good running vision. Waits for blocks to develop then finds the open lanes on the field. Occasionally lined up at fullback and effective blocking down the field. Possesses soft hands and a solid receiver out of the backfield.

NEGATIVES: Loses speed running laterally. Not a nimble or elusive back who creates and lacks the ability to cut back against the grain.

ANALYSIS: A tough ballcarrier that's adjusted well to several different roles on the Louisville football team, Gates is a hard worker who does the little things well. Could fill a variety of positions at the next level and should hang around the league for a long time.
