BIO: Second-team All-Conference selection who posted a team-leading 165/802/14 on the ground, while adding seven receptions. Suspended from the team in 2003 after a pair of DUI alcohol charges.
POSITIVES: Well-sized interior back who picks up a lot of yardage off initial contact. Powerful lower body, breaks the first tackle and carries the pile. Runs with forward lean and delivers punishment on his way to the ground. Runs with good vision, patience, and waits for blocks to develop. Effectively uses a straight arm and falls forward when tackled. Good run instincts.
NEGATIVES: Not an elusive ballcarrier and best in a straight line. Lacks quickness and a burst through the hole. Slow picking up blocking assignments and must increase his intensity. Durability as well as character issues are a concern.
ANALYSIS: A hard-running interior ballcarrier, Johnson did well in his role at Utah last season. Possesses the size and strength to be a short-yardage or goal-line runner. yet does not play a fast game or possess the speed to be an every-down runner.
