BIO: All-Conference and All-America selection as a senior after numbers of 62.7 percent/5,488/39/18. Began his college career at Texas A&M when he started as a sophomore, throwing for 53.2 percent/2,509/19/16.
POSITIVES: Hard-working passer with marginal size for the next level. Technically sound, sets up with solid footwork and throws with an over-the-top delivery. Patient, buys time for receivers and always working to make something positive happen. Sells the ball fakes, displays good vision and finds open wideouts. Leads backs on screen passes, threads a needle and gets the ball into tight spots. Adequate long arm and fires passes in the short field.
NEGATIVES: Tends to zero in on a single receiver. Loses a lot throwing on the move. Not a mobile passer who can escape the rush. Must significantly improve his deep accuracy. Tends to float in the pocket and does not always set his feet.
ANALYSIS: A solid short-yardage passer, Long has potential as a backup in a timing offense that only occasionally employs the vertical game.
