2006 NFL Draft Draft Tracker Round 1 Round 2 Round 3 Round 4 Round 5 Round 6 Round 7 Players Positions Schools Conferences

 Steve Weatherford Grade: 3.27
 Position: P
 Class: Sr
 School: Illinois
 Conference: Big Ten
 Ht., Wt.: 6-0, 191
 40 Time: 4.72

BIO: Three-year starter and All-Conference performer. Averaged 42.6 yards on 67 punts as a senior, with a long of 70 yards. Also averaged 60.9 yards on 35 kickoffs. Career long punt of 79 yards came as a junior.

POSITIVES: Big-legged punter who gets great hang-time on punts. Flips the field or pins opponents deep in their own territory. Comes up with the long punt when necessary. Effectively places punts inside the 10-yard line.

NEGATIVES: Not quick getting the ball of his foot. Has trouble cleanly getting the punt away when pressured.

ANALYSIS: A tough, dual-role kicker, Weatherford is a hard-working prospect who can play at the next level. Must be quicker getting the ball off his foot yet could be starting in the NFL by his second season.

PROJECTION: Late Seventh Round
