BIOGRAPHY: Junior-college transfer who made an immediate impact at San Jose State upon his arrival two years ago. All-Conference selection as a junior and senior totaling 44/4/7 last year after 48/9/16 the previous campaign. Earned All-American honors as a junior.
POSITIVES: Opportunistic cornerback with a good head for the game. Fluid pedaling in reverse, quick transitioning to run with opponents, and has quarterbacks purposely throwing away from him. Displays a good degree of awareness on the field, effectively reads the action, and diagnoses plays. Possesses a great sense of timing and anticipation as well as terrific hands for the interception.
NEGATIVES: Not a strong, sturdy defender. Struggles against the run and physically defeated by opponents. Prefers to side-shuffle down the field. Was benched in the middle of his senior campaign for poor play.
ANALYSIS: Lowery is a talented cover corner with top ball skills and abilities for the next level. He would fit well in a cover two system or a scheme where he's backed off the line of scrimmage. Lowery should see playing time as a rookie in dime or nickel situations.
