BIOGRAPHY: Four-year starter at tackle awarded All-Conference honors since his freshman campaign and All-American honors since his junior season. Named the 2007 recipient of the Gene Upshaw Award, which is annually given to the top lineman in Division II.
POSITIVES: Strong, thickly built blocker who's at his best on the inside. Plays with good lean, keeps his feet moving, and blocks with balance. Moves well about the field, plays with a nasty attitude, and always looking for someone to hit. Very active with his hands, jolts defenders at the point, and moves them from their angle of attack. Makes good use of angles. Displays the ability to adjust and effective in pass protection.
NEGATIVES: Gets minimal movement run-blocking. Not light on his feet and struggles to finish blocks.
ANALYSIS: Barnes has been a terrific small-school blocker and he offers potential at the next level at guard and center. He is a solid developmental prospect who could find a home as a utility blocker.
