BIOGRAPHY: Four-year starter awarded varying degrees of all-Conference honors since his sophomore campaign as well as being named as
an all-American after his junior season. Senior totals included 51/10/5 after 56/17/8 as a junior.
POSITIVES: Byrd is a quick, penetrating defensive lineman with the skills needed to play a three- technique position in the NFL. He lacks
the size to be an every-down player, yet he could be a terrific backup in the right situation.
NEGATIVES: Easily handled at the point by a single blocker. Shows minimal power to his game. Has prior off-the-field incidents, which
may raise red flags.
ANALYSIS: Undersized, yet explosive, one-gap tackle who moves well about the field. Breaks down well, plays with consistent knee bend,
and gets underneath blockers. Quickly gets off the snap with a great first step, fights with his hands, and shows toughness
defending the run. Moves well laterally, collapses to the outside, and strings plays out to the flanks. Quick changing direction,
and tough to knock off his feet. Displays a burst of closing speed.
